Just For One Thing is a pair of one-hour online coaching sessions, marketed through Eventbrite, that are designed to help you develop or improve just one single thing about your presentation style. Something specific you’d like to develop, improve or feel more confident about. Maybe you want to stop waffling? Better manage your nerves? Speak more clearly? Create more of a buzz? It doesn’t matter whether you’re an exec, a student or somewhere in between; if your work involves public speaking or presenting, then this is for you. We’ll work together for two sessions on Zoom to help you improve that one thing in a tailored, supportive and no-nonsense way.
Before we begin, you’ll choose or create a short presentation (or just an excerpt) lasting approximately three minutes that you want to work on. You’ll practise it a bit and share with me your thoughts, questions, or ideas about what you’d like to be different. This will give me the clues and ideas to help me structure the first session so we can hit the ground running.
In the first session, you’ll deliver your piece with no pressure or polish required, and we’ll record it at least once. We’ll explore what’s working, what could work better, and what might be getting in your way. We’ll try a few things and narrow down some options. You’ll leave with some practical exercises, tailored techniques, and specific things to try in your own time.
In the second session, you’ll bring back an updated version of the same presentation. We’ll rehearse and review it, compare it with the original using video, and spot what’s improved and anything else that’s bubbled up. You’ll finish with evidence of what you have achieved, a clear routemap for future development, and a few ideas for your toolkit to keep building from there.
Backed by more than thirty years’ experience, it’s focused, flexible, and designed to shift the dial just for one thing.
What makes this different?
Specifics. Coaching sessions that try to improve all or many things either need to be longer than most of us generally have time for or contain less detail than we would like. Just For One Thing tries to avoid this problem by focusing on a single objective that can be achieved in two one-hour slots.
Evidence. Feedback from someone – anyone – is, by its nature, filtered. Using video gives you a direct and unbiased view of what you are doing, and allows you full control over what changes you want to make.
Time. Taking the time and space to reflect after the first session gives you perspective. Then putting into practise the exercises and adjustments we have discussed as you prepare for the second session means we can then compare your performances and evaluate your progress together. This provides you with the proof that your presentation delivery style has grown, and creates the momentum for your continued development.
You. There is no one right way of presenting, there is just your way and only you will know what it could and should be like. My job is to help you find your own presentation style rather than imitate someone else’s.
Me. I have over thirty years’ experience of giving presentations, coaching presenters and running presentation delivery skills workshops online and face to face. I think about it a good deal, write about it a fair amount, and spend a lot of time coming up with new ideas to help people get better at delivering them. It’s my thing. I don’t really know why – it just is in an Ikigai kind of way.
Dates & Booking
You choose the date and time of your first session, and at the end of it we’ll schedule the second session. All sessions take place over Zoom.
Pricing
I want this to be as accessible as I can make it, so there are three pricing tiers:
Standard: £50 for two full sessions + preparation and future development ideas.
Supporter: £70 if you can afford & would like to help others access this work.
Supported: £30 if cost is a barrier right now.
No need to explain; just pick the price that fits your situation.
If you’d like to book a session, I’d obviously prefer if you contacted me directly so I can save admin fees, but if you prefer to book through Eventbrite, get in touch so we can agree a date for your first session and then you’ll find it ready and waiting for you here.
