This course seeks to reflect our natural desire for inclusion when it comes to being an active part of a reciprocal interconnected group, and our natural optimism towards problem-solving when faced by seemingly insurmountable odds.
Cross Purposes
Networking and Negotiation: Perhaps a combination that at first appears a dichotomy, the pairing of Networking and Negotiation is very much deliberate. Two very common perceptions of these essential activities are “insincerity” and “conflict”, and our belief is that these maligned interpretations are at the root of our often difficult relationship with them.
This course seeks to reflect our natural desire for inclusion when it comes to being an active part of a reciprocal interconnected group, and our natural optimism towards problem-solving when faced by seemingly insurmountable odds.
In short, it is in our nature to be both gregarious and creative, and whilst we acknowledge that aspirations and reality are not always the same, this course seeks to challenge participants
to distinguish for themselves between the baby and the bathwater.
Do we have to network? How can we network in such a way as to feel genuine yet be effective? Why do we sometimes feel like a spare part at networking events? Why does everyone else seem so much more confident than we feel? How can we negotiate in order to get what we want? If we show any weakness is that bad? How can we learn to have a poker face? If any of these questions sound familiar, then this could be the course for you.
Cross Purposes asks participants to challenge themselves through disclosure, experiences and discussion, and then builds a framework through which each may see their relationship with these two essential activities through different eyes. Cross Purposes is a one day course for between 16 and 24 participants.
Island 41 also offers Cross Purposes as a one day open course
for a maximum of twelve people. The course is normally run in West London, and is scheduled according to demand. For more information, or to register interest in attending an open course, please e-mail: info@island41.com or call
